SASLI appoints NEW POLICY ADVISOR
Press Release 16th January 2007
The SASLI Executive Committee and Director held a planning meeting on 8th January to review the Timings Report and the 2002 Creating Linguistic Access for Deaf and Deafblind People: A Strategy for Scotland report. Key skills and experience in this area are vital to take SASLI to the next level.
SASLI are keen to begin the process of implementing changes in our
governance, management and organisation to strengthen our capacity
to take our work forward. A rare mixture of skills and experience
is needed to deliver our planned aims, so we decided to 'head hunt'
someone to fill this important role. To this end, we are pleased to
announce that from the end of January, Marion Fletcher will
take up the newly created post of Policy Advisor.
As some of you will know, Marion was Head of Strategy and Development
at Donaldson's College where she was responsible for a range of development
projects as well as all aspects of Equal Opportunities work.
Marion has an enduring interest in languages and linguistic access;
British Sign Language is her fourth language after English, Spanish
and Kiswahili. She is currently enrolled in the Certificate
in BSL/English Interpreting Studies at Heriot Watt University.
”We feel Marion's skills will give us extra strength in developing a
strong policy and campaign arm for SASLI,” says Helga McGilp, SASLI Director. “We
look forward to working with Marion.”

As well as this, SASLI will be advertising for a new Training
and Development Officer and Administration and Information
Officer; job descriptions will be available by end of this
month. Both posts will be based in Glasgow.
Please contact Helga McGilp with any queries regarding the new appointments
or if you are interested in either post.
